Nic Iliffe, Humanities teacher, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Politics from the University of South Africa. Thereafter he completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Education, with a focus on History and Business Studies. He took up an ESL teaching position in Daegu, South Korea and in Shanghai, China at Disney English. He later held the position of Academic Director and then as Regional Academic Director which allowed him to travel and work extensively around the country. He worked as the Deputy Principal at Crawford College North Coast where his responsibilities includes the Head of Academics, Sport and Pastoral care. In addition to his management responsibilities he also taught Business Studies, History and English.

Director of Studies and Head of Upper School: Meng Li. An alumna of Tsinghua University High School, Ms. Li graduated from Yale University (B.A.), Middlebury College (M.A.), and Columbia University (M.Ed). She serves as a member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and a member of Cognia (formerly AdvancED). Prior to joining Tsinglan in 2017 as a founding faculty member, Ms. Li taught at Riverdale Country School in New York City for seven years, and worked as the accreditation chair there. She served as a member of the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. She has also worked as the Program Dean for the Oxbridge Academic Programs at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Joe Qiao, Director of Operations/ Humanities teacher, one of the member of the founding leadership of Tsinglan School. He is a current Doctoral Student in the program of Doctor of Management provided by University of Arizona. He has received three master's degrees,including the Master of Curriculum and Teaching Theory of Northeast Normal University, the Master of Financial Management from the US, and the Master of Organization and Human Resource Management of University of Hong Kong. He is also an outstanding Teacher in Tsinghua University High School who won the first prize at Teaching Competition for Young Teachers and the special award in the competition of micro-video producing. With over more than 10 years of experience in teaching and management, he has deeply understand the contents and characteristics of humanities teaching. Meanwhile he with a deep accumulation and summary of politics, history, and geography. Besides, he is familiar with the psychological development characteristics of K12 students and concerned with the diverse development of students. In the near future, he will work with the humanities and social sciences faculty to provide students with humanities lectures that combine Chinese and Western elements in Tsinghua’s teaching style. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, photography and coffee making, and affects everyone around him with a positive mindset.

Houming Jiang, the middle school division head in Tsinglan School, joining Tsinglan School in August 2020. He received a bachelor in accounting at Xiamen University, got a master at Columbia University, and is pursuing a doctor in the University of Hong Kong. He is licensed in both China and U.S. He was on the founding team of Whittle School Shenzhen and served as the deputy division head of middle school. He was the founding faculty of a project-based learning program at International School of Beijing. Houming also taught in rural Yunnan on the Burmese border for two years. Houming enjoys training in triathlon.

Carl Klopper, English and Humanities teacher, graduated from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University with bachelor degree in Business Management and law as well as a post graduate qualification in education from University of South Africa. Carl is a passionate teacher who strives to use western learning methods to encourage critical thinking and innovative students. Having taught in South Korea, China and South Africa to a variety of levels he has gained valuable experiences that he incorporates into his teaching philosophy. He strives to help students grow and develop their intellectual capabilities. He believes all students have the ability to be innovative and creative. He wants students to take initiative in their learning and to incorporate ethics.

Ian Bailey, Humanities Teacher, From the United States, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. He graduated with Honors from Sonoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. He’s been a teacher for over 8 years, with experience teaching in Turkey and China. Ian’s excited to explore geography, history, and the literature of the world in a classroom that is fun, social, and rigorous. He is a husband, father, poet, video and tabletop gaming enthusiast, and avid weightlifter.

Lara Furtado, Humanities Teacher, from the Brazil, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. She graduated from Universidade Federal de Uberlandia with a Bachelor and licensed degree in Psychology. She has been a teacher for over six years, with experience in teaching AP Psychology to High School students. She also previously used Montessori method for Kindergarten teaching. Besides Psychology, Lara has taught Spanish for three years and has also worked as a psychological counselor. She believes in the importance of students learning about Psychology and Mental Health, not only for school but also for life. Lara is passionate about world travel, learning new cultures, the arts, painting, jigsaw puzzles and reading.

Huang Yajing is a humanities teacher. Ms. Huang graduated from Renmin University of China (B.A.), University of St Andrews (Exchange program, full scholarship) , Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel (M.A., full scholarship). She was awarded as the Outstanding Braduate of Beijing 2016 and has won the National Scholarship 2016. Ms. Huang is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, as well as proficient in modern Hebrew, conversational Korean and literary Arabic. She focuses on the development of students’ leadership and self-discipline, having an excellent reputation among students and parents. She was awarded as the Outstanding Teacher of Songshan Lake in 2019, and has abundant experience in scholarship applications, International internships, and volunteering. She is now leading several competitions including Future City, Model APEC, MUN etc..



Xusheng Zhang, a school counselor, Teacher Development Institute Director, SEL (social emotion learning) program leader, is one of the founding members of the Tsinglan School. She graduated from the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences with a major in applied psychology. She has received systematic and professional training in the field of psychological counseling, including psychoanalysis, humanism, behaviorism, group counseling and crisis intervention. She is the lecture in Senior Psychological Counselor of Beijing United Family Hospital, Beijing Education College Primary and Secondary School Mental Health Teacher Psychological Counseling Technology Enhancement Training Instructor, lecturing on "Consultation Technology in Action Phase" and "Crisis Intervention". Her main areas of counseling include scientific parenting, personality issues, adolescent growth, marital relationships, family relationships, environmental adaptation, potential development, stress management, emotional management, team management, and interpersonal relationships. In 2008, as a special expert of the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, she went to Wenchuan to carry out psychological crisis intervention, and won the title of Advanced Worker of the Second Psychologists Conference, and spoke as a representative in the Great Hall of the People.

Hang Guo, Humanities teacher, graduated from Tsinghua University with a master degree in Law, and from the University of Jilin with a Bachelor degree in history and Chinese Language & Literature. He has been awarded the National scholarship and the National Innovation Project. He has worked in Venture Capital, focusing on education and Artificial Intelligence, with proficient work experience in economic, financial and investment.

Julia Hu, Humanities intern teacher, graduated from Southwest University with a Bachelor degree in history teaching, and from Southwest University with a Master degree in subject history teaching. She has six years' experience in history teaching in senior high schools and she won the first-class completion in Yunnan Province. Her thesis has won the first-class prize in Yunnan Province many times, and her class demonstration has won the first-class and second-class prizes in Yunnan Province and Municipality many times. She pays attention to pedagogy and psychology, students' diversified development, and focuses on building efficient classroom.

Wendy Su, Humanities teacher and college counselor, she has been studying in Canada since high school and graduated from UBC (University of British Columbia) this year with major at Sociology and minor at Education (English learning and teaching). During the past four years, she has received outstanding international scholarship twice, and have been employed by UBC Asian department as a teacher Assistance since 2017 September. She also obtained a TESOL certificate and have lots of teaching experiences in both Canada and China. At present, she realized that both the complexity of education and complexity of human individuals have made the comprehensive application of diverse educational approach necessary. As for her teaching philosophy, she believes that education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire. Helping students to learn is more beneficial than just giving them knowledge.

Kenny Song, humanities teacher, joining Tsinglan School in August 2020. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2008 with a double BA in Economics and Psychology, and also holds a CELTA certification. He has a total of 5 years of teaching experience at both the university and high school level. Prior to teaching, he worked as a financial analyst at a major investment bank in the US. Kenny's approach to teaching is to provide a stimulating environment where students can grow academically, mentally, and emotionally to their fullest potential. He emphasizes the importance of developing good habits, both in and outside of the classroom. In his free time, Kenny enjoys traveling and other outdoor activities.

Yishun Lu, geography teacher, graduated from Hubei University, high school Superior-grade geography teacher. He is a member of the Chinese Geographical Society, member of the Guangdong Province Primary and Secondary School Textbook Review Committee, and extracurricular instructor of the Master of Geography in South China Normal University. He is also a part-time Supervisor of Dongguan Municipal People's Government, Consultant of Famous Teacher Studio, Chief Examiner for Teacher Recruitment of Dongguan City, Member of Senior Professional Title Evaluation Committee of Provincial Primary and Secondary School Teachers.

He trained the No. 1 scholar in the college entrance examination in Hubei Province, and trained more than 10 students in the top 10 geography subjects in the college entrance examination. Many outstanding students taught by him were sent to Tsinghua University and Peking University. He has been awarded as "Outstanding Teacher", "Outstanding Communist Party Member" and "Top Ten Principals" at the municipal level many times. He was named "Outstanding Middle School Geography Teacher in Hubei Province" and "Outstanding Geography Teacher" in Guangdong Province. In 1990, he won the first prize for the compilation of local teaching materials in Hubei Province and the second prize for the compilation of national local teaching materials.

Yujuan He, Moral Education Teacher, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. She Graduated from Beijing Normal University with a major in ideological and political education. She is an Advanced Senior middle school teacher with a persistent pursuit of education. Mrs. He has been teaching for 25 years and concurrently held management positions for 23 years. She served as secretary of the Youth League Committee, Director of the Moral Education Department, Vice President of Moral Education, and Secretary of the Party Branch of the school. In work, she likes to challenge herself, seek breakthroughs in difficulties, seek improvement in learning, and seek innovation in challenges.

Max Xue, Humanities teacher joined Tsinglan School in February 2021. He has obtained his Bachelor’s degree in English from Jilin University (Changchun, China) and Master’s degree in history and sociology from Boston University and Purdue University in the United States. With 10+ years of experience in international education, he has taught test prep courses (TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, ACT, SSAT, IELTS, etc), AP (US history), English literature, and GED, as well as sociology courses. He has been successfully running his own education studio, with many students earning top scores and admitted into top 50 American universities and elite high schools.

Selena Shen, Humanities teacher, joining Tsinglan School in August 2020. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a bachelor degree in history, and from University of Oxford with a master degree in Contemporary Chinese Studies. She had taken humanities and social science courses across multiple disciplines, including international politics, sociology, world history, Chinese history, and art history. She had taught English in senior high school for one year. She enjoys calligraphy, fantasy literature, and electronic sports.

Mengya Qu, Humanities teacher, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. She graduated from Tsinghua University(B.A.), and Columbia University(M.A.).She founded a start-up that designed cultural travel program for high school students to help students gain aesthetic appreciation and historic knowledge. She worked as a founding faculty of a private school in rural China for three years. She believes education can have a positive impact on both individual and community levels.

Zhao Yu, history teacher, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. She graduated from Central China Normal University and got a master's degree in history teaching. She also got two bachelor's degrees in history and English. She has two teacher qualifications majored in history and English, TEM-8 certificate and IELTS score of 7. During her 5 years’ history teaching, she served as the lessons preparation group leader twice, and the results of her classes were among the best in her city. She participated in the College Board Program during 2018 and 2019 and gave lessons in a public high school in North Carolina, USA. She hopes to guide students to learn to survive, learn to care, learn to learn, learn to innovate, learn to cooperate, and learn to be responsible; she firmly believes in the importance of lifelong learning. In her spare time, she likes doing sports and memorizing English vocabularies.

Monica Mo, Psychologist , joining Tsinglan School in August 2020. She obtained Bachelor of Science at Guangzhou University in China and Bachelor of Arts at Wesleyan College in the United States,Master of Education of Miami University, with “Assessment and Evaluation” and “Human Brain and Learning” certified. Monica is well practiced in Psychology Measurement and Behavior Intervention professional skills. Proficient in the diverse learning and advanced instructional design, she has rich experience in researching of the development of children and adolescents. Living in U.S. for three years, Monica has passion to share her cross-cultural experience with students going overseas. Monica is a warm and outgoing lady, loves traveling, reading and writing.

Mason Wang, Intern Psychology Teacher, joined Tsinglan School in August 2021. He graduated from Zhejiang University and New York University with a major in Psychology. He has rich experience in issues that middle school student might encounter, such as academic pressure, studying aboard, academic competition, career planning, student community, and interpersonal communication. He is good at analyzing problems with data and solving problems with communication. In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer, rock music, traveling, and reading.
